SUMMARY:Getting to know your union: What does the LUCU Committee do?
DESCRIPTION:An online meeting organised by our Loughborough London Department Reps. \nLoughborough UCU Committee is a small but powerful group of advocates and negotiators working at the top levels of the University\, on the ground with members\, and with Unison and Unite to improve conditions and experiences for all workers. We are in need of more members to help us contribute to shaping the many ongoing changes at the university and hold management to account in the process. \nThis session will be a chance to hear from Angela Dy\, LUCU Equality Officer\, about her experience of committee work\, what it has brought to her life as an academic and LU employee\, and ask any questions you might have about getting involved. \nPlease consider joining us in any capacity – from driving or managing a single initiative\, or taking on a dedicated role. We are looking for help across all facets – such as policy developments\, casework\, and advising on staff and student generative AI usage and adoption. New committee contributors would be given ample opportunity to shadow and work with experienced members. \nMembers not from London also welcome. The information gathered will feed into a summary shared with members and be used to inform our strategy and negotiations with management\, keeping individuals’ safety in mind. \nWe also plan to encourage a University contribution to the next government consultation on the issue (due 12 Feb).
