    All LUCU members, friends and family are warmly invited to join us for an informal social evening in Loughborough. Whether you’re a long-standing member or new to the branch, it’s a great opportunity to catch up with colleagues, meet new people, and enjoy a relaxed evening together. The event is open to members and their guests, with no formal agenda, just good company and conversation.

  • Come to the LUCU AGM and Branch Social

    All LUCU members are invited to join us on Wednesday 1st July for the LUCU Annual General Meeting (AGM), along with a pre-AGM Branch Social. It’s a chance to catch up with colleagues, hear from a guest speaker, and take part in the business of the branch.

    The Branch Social will run from 12:00 to 1:00pm, followed by the AGM at 1:00pm. The meeting will take place in Brockington Building (map), Room B007, and will also be accessible online via Microsoft Teams. If you can, we’d encourage coming along in person.

    This year’s AGM will include a talk from Professor Lopa Leach, President of the University of Nottingham UCU branch. She will speak about members’ responses to mass redundancies at Nottingham, sharing insights into the wider challenges facing the sector and what branches can learn from recent experiences. There will be time for questions afterwards.

    The social beforehand is a relaxed way to start the afternoon. From 12:00pm, you can drop in to meet colleagues from across the university, have an informal catch-up, and enjoy some food and light refreshments provided by the branch.

    We will also use the AGM to announce the LUCU Committee for 2026/27, introducing the colleagues who will represent members over the coming year.

    AGM papers, calendar invites and the link for joining online have already been sent to members by email. If you haven’t received them, or need them sent again, please get in touch at ucu@lboro.ac.uk.

    West Bridgford LUCU Social

    All LUCU members, friends and family welcome and particularly for people who live around Nottingham, local members will be grabbing a drink on Friday 22 May, at 7 p.m. at the Stratford Haven in West Bridgford.

    No need to RSVP per se, but if you can let Anthony Kevins know you’re planning to come, he can see about trying to reserve tables if the numbers warrant it.

  • Staff Summer Picnic

    Join your LUCU colleagues to celebrate the end of the academic year at the Staff Summer Picnic

    The University and Staff Trade Unions are jointly hosting a Staff Summer Picnic on 1st July from 12-2pm at the EHB Pavilion on the Loughborough campus. This will be a special event to celebrate your achievements and take some time to relax and unwind.

    Organised in partnership with Unite, Unison and the University, colleagues can look forward to music and garden games like Jenga, cornhole, hoopla and more, plus the chance to meet with Staff Networks, Trade Unions, University Senior Leaders and teams from across the University. 

    And if you’re one of the first 150 guests to arrive, you’ll receive a free hot dog (vegan/vegetarian/gluten-free options will be available)!

    This is a great opportunity to meet new faces, find out what’s happening across the University, and recognise each other’s hard work throughout the 2024-25 academic year in a relaxed and informal setting. 

    There’s no need to book – just come along, bring a friend or a teammate, and enjoy the afternoon.

    Vice-Chancellor Professor Nick Jennings and UNISON Branch Secretary Irvin Hendrickson commented: “We’re really proud this event is hosted in partnership between the University and our recognised Trade Unions. This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to continue building a positive, inclusive and respectful working culture for all staff, and we’re looking forward to celebrating our progress with staff from across the University on the day.”

  • LUCU Annual General Meeting & Branch Social

    A reminder that all LUCU members are invited to attend the Annual General Meeting of Loughborough University branch of UCU.

    Please note the location of the AGM & branch social has moved to the Edward Herbert Building, EHB 002.

    The AGM will be held on Wednesday 2nd July at 12:30pm, this will be a hybrid meeting, in person in the Edward Herbert Building in room EHB 002 and online via Microsoft Teams. We encourage in person attendance where possible.

    The AGM will be followed by a Branch Social, an opportunity to meet some of your fellow UCU members from across the university. This will take place immediately after the AGM until 4pm in the same room as the AGM (EHB 002). The branch will be providing light refreshments and snacks. We hope to see you there.

    The agenda for the AGM, including a motion, and text of a proposed change to Staff Conditions of Service (to be voted on by members at the AGM) has been emailed to all members on the 18th June. If you have any amendments to the motion, please provide these in writing by replying to the email from 18th June by no later than 12pm (midday) on Wednesday 25th June. Minutes of the previous AGM and quorate GMs for approval at this meeting, were also attached to the email, along with a calendar appointment and the link to join online.
